Beauty Tips and Tricks for Prom

Beauty Tips and Tricks for Prom

TBC Occasions wants to make sure you feel your absolute best on your prom night! We have so many beautiful formal dresses to choose from, but your prom dress is only one piece of the puzzle. You still have to think about your skin, which makeup style you want to wear, and how you want to style your hair! So much goes into looking perfect for prom, and we're here to help!

1. Skincare

The Mighty Patch

The first step to getting glowing skin is drinking lots and lots of water! Water should be your best friend because it helps keep your skin clear and filter out the toxins in your body. The secret to taming an unexpected breakout is with eye drops! Eye drops have inflammatory agents within it that helps reduce acne and redness. We also recommend trying a hydrocolloid patch like The Mighty Patch. These magical stickers reduce redness, shrink the size of breakouts, and pull out the gunk. You can apply these at night and wake up with little to no trace of acne. Speaking of sleeping, getting your beauty rest is such an important factor when it comes to having healthy, glowing skin. If you notice your eyes are a bit puffy, grab some cucumber slices and lay them on your eyes for about 10 minutes. The coolness will reduce the puffiness. Last, but not least...moisturize moisturize moisturize! Proper hydration will keep your skin looking refreshed.

2. Eyebrow Maintenance

Eyebrows are transformational and can really make all the difference! Make sure to get your eyebrows cleaned up and polished before prom. Waxing, threading, or plucking your brows can leave your skin red and irritated, so shape your brows a few days before to give your skin enough time to heal. If you have lighter or sparse brows, fill them in using a pomade or powder (some of our favorites are the Anastasia Beverly Hills Ombre Effect Long Wearing Brow Powder Duo, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz® Ultra-Slim Precision Brow Pencil, or the Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW® Waterproof Smudge Proof Brow Pomade). The range of shades that these products offer is ideal for any skin tone and hair color. Lastly, remember to add a little bit of highlighter under you arch to make your brows appear lifted and more full!

3. Best Hair Day

Just like your skin, make sure your hair is healthy and well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water. A deep conditioner or leave in conditioner will also make your hair soft and shiny! If you want to curl your hair for prom night, make sure it's a little dirty by adding hairspray or dry shampoo to it before you start curling (curls hold better when hair is dirty or has product in it). Once you're done curling, add another layer of hairspray. Hairspray is your best friend. If you are wanting to wear an updo, insert the wavy part of your bobby pins against your head, and then add a little hairspray to it. It will hold all night long! If you have pesky fly-aways or baby hairs, grab a toothbrush, spray it with hairspray, and brush the toothbrush over the hairs to lay them down in place. Did we mention you should use some hairspray? One of our favorite hairsprays is the Kenra Volume Spray 25. There's a reason why it's been a top-rated hairspray for 10+ years!

4. Makeup Tips

A primer is basically a photo filter in the makeup world. A primer will smooth your pores and allow your foundation to lay evenly and natural. It also hydrates your skin and gives you a nice glow. When applying your foundation, remember to add some to your eyes because it will help your eye shadow stay on longer. After applying your concealer under your eyes, pat on translucent powder, and leave it there for about five minutes. It will brighten up your under eye area. When applying your eye shadow, use a cream base first, then add a powder shadow on top to make the shadow stand out in pictures and last through all the dancing! When applying eye shadow, it can sometimes fall on to your cheeks. Use some tape under eyes to catch all the fall through! Tape can also be useful when it comes to winged eyeliner. Apply scotch tape to the corner of your eyes in an angled position, and follow the edge of the tape with the eyeliner. This will create the perfect winged eye! When it comes to your lips, make sure to brush them (when you're brushing your teeth) to remove dead skin. Immediately follow with a chapstick to lock in moisture. Your lipstick will last longer and look super smooth! The most important advice we can give when it comes to makeup is to make sure everything you use is waterproof! You want to be prepared for any kind of weather and for all of that dancing!

5. Smell Fresh

Vaseline Petroleum Jelly Makeup Hack

If you're planning on dancing the night away make sure you have a long lasting deodorant or antiperspirant. Before you spritz the perfume, add a little petroleum jelly like Vaseline to the areas that you usually spray (neck, wrist, collar bone, etc.). This allows the fragrance to hold on to something and last longer! Additionally, don't rub your wrists together after you apply the scent – this breaks down the chemicals and makes the perfume fade faster. Finally, find a fragrance that is alcohol-based rather than water-based. Alcohol-based perfumes last longer because they have a higher concentration of fragrance oil. Because of this, they're usually more expensive, but are worth the investment because you end up using less over time.

6. Don't Experiment

Prom night is definitely not the time to try something new! If you want to experiment with a hairstyle or makeup look, give it a test run before prom to make sure you will absolutely love it! Host a pre-prom planning party where you and your friends get together and try out new looks. The best rule of thumb is to stay with the styles you already know, love, and are comfortable with because nothing is worse than not feeling your best on one of the most important and fun nights of your life!

Now you're equipped to take on prom! From the dress to the hair and the makeup, you will be ready for your perfect night!
